Rangeland Foods Burgers Withdrawn
A batch of burger products, produced by a Co Monaghan meat processing factory, have been withdrawn after they were found to contain 5%-30% horse meat.
Produced by Rangeland Foods the burgers had been sold to the catering and wholesale sectors and had been distributed around Ireland, the UK, Spain, France, Germany and the Netherlands.
Tests carried out at the Castleblayney plant show that some burger products made with beef supplied from Poland tested positive for horse meat.
The company said the burgers were produced last September specifically for the UK market, but as a precaution it has decided to withdraw all of its untested products made from Polish meat.
The Rangelands Foods plant was closed pending investigations, but resumed production on 7 February on the basis that it uses only Irish raw materials.

Minister For Agriculture Calls EU Meeting Over Horse Meat Scandal
Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney has called on officials from EU countries affected by the ongoing horse meat scandal to attend a meeting on Wednesday in Brussels to discuss “whatever steps may be necessary at EU level to comprehensively address this matter”. Coveney said the European Commission needs to be involved to find a solution.

Birds Eye has confirmed that an Irish processor supplied the meat used in two of its products which were found to have horse DNA in them. In a statement, the frozen food firm said QK Meats in Naas had supplied meat Belgian firm Frigilunch N.V., which in turn made the meals for Birds Eye.

IFA Proposes Pork Protest
The Irish Farmers Association (IFA) has announced they are to stage a protest over the delay in completing the pig slaughtering programme. The protest is expected to begin at midday as talks between the Taoiseach, Minister of Agriculture and pig meat processors continue this morning.
