Septic Registration Expected To Close At 75%

Up to 75% of all septic tank owners are expected to have registered by this evening's deadline, Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan has said.

Currently the number registered stands at 68%.

The minister added a warning that those who fail to register in time would be breaking the law, and that they would not be entitled to financial assistance if they have a problem with their tank in the future.

The fee is €50 and registration can be done at www.protectourwater.ie, by post or at local authority offices.

Any extension to today's deadline has been ruled out.
