Promissory Notes Face High Court Challenge
The government's use of promissory notes to fund some banks will face a legal challenge in the High Court.
David Hall, director of the Irish Mortgage Holders Organisation, is bringing the case.
The primary issue is the validity of the promissory notes and actions taken on foot of them, according to John Rodgers SC.
It is understood that the Act that established the notes in 2010 required the Minister for Finance to secure a Dáil vote and this was not done.
Mr Rodgers claims that without the vote, the notes were void, going on to add that if the minister did not require a Dáil vote, then the Act was unconstitutional.
The case is expected to last four days and is before the President of the High Court Nicholas Kearns.

High Court Appoint Homebase Examiner
An examiner has been appoint to Homebase Ireland by the High Court, as the DIY chain announces it is considering closing three stores. Currently, the chain has 15 stores and employes 558 people, with 17 full-time and 79 part-time staff employed in the three stores slated for closure.

Callely Court Date Set For Next Week
The next hearing of Ivor Callely's case against the Seanad Committee over his expenses claims has been scheduled for next Tuesday. Senator Callely took the proceedings after being suspended from the Seanad by the committee for 20 days over a number of allegedly fraudulent expense claims.

Judge To Rule Again On Zoe Protection
Eamon Carroll's troubled property group Zoe is to go back to the High Court today to find out if it will be allowed a fourth bid to gain court protection. Mr Justice Frank Clarke last week again rejected an application from the heavily indebted group for the appointment of an examiner to seven of the Zoe companies.

IBRC Actions Can Proceed Following High Court Ruling
Existing actions against Irish Bank Resolution Corporation, including those of the family of bankrupt businessman Seán Quinn, can proceed, the High Court has ruled. The case involved the new IBRC Act and whether the courts had jurisdiction to lift the "immediate stay", which had halted all proceedings against the bank.
