Maximum Number Of Citizens Will Vote In Children's Referendum

Carlow and Kilkenny T.D., Ann Phelan, outlined that the decision to hold the Children's Referendum on a Saturday means that the maximum number of citizens can vote.

She said: "The decision by the Minister for Children to hold the Referendum on Saturday 10th, is a welcome one. It will facilitate students and those who work mid-week. I am hopeful that it will result in a good turn out on the day and will create a frontrunner for Saturday voting into the future.

"I have been campaigning for a 'Yes' vote for the last number of weeks to put our children at the heart of Bunreacht na hÉireann. This is an opportunity to bring children's rights to the fore, to support families and to remove the inequalities associated with the adoption process.

"For a long time now, students have requested that voting take place on the weekend. I hope that this will be reflected on the day and that as many as possible use this opportunity to exercise their vote."
