Burton Announces Incentives For Employers
The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has urged employers to grow their businesses by taking people off the Live Register, saying there would be financial and tax incentives to do so.
Ms Burton was speaking to employers in Limerick at the start of a series of briefings across the country about the incentives on offer to employers from her Department to get those on social welfare back to work.
She said if employers create new jobs they would basically get a "holiday" from PRSI if they recruit from the Live Register.
Explaining she said they would be exempted from the 10.75% PRSI scheme, and would also get tax breaks from Revenue in terms of the salaries they pay.
She said these are part of a package of measures to get people back to work, and to look on social welfare as part of a social investment in people for the future.
