63-Year-Old Dies On Building Site

A 63-year-old man has died following an accident at the VEC campus building site in Monaghan.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, is believed to have been a manager at the construction.

He was involved in an accident at about 11.40am on Friday and was pronounced dead at the scene. The building site has been shut down to allow the HSA and gardaí to begin an investigation.

Matt Carthy, chairman of Monaghan VEC said, “On behalf of the VEC I would like to pass on our condolences to the man’s family and to offer our assistance to them in the weeks and months ahead.”

65-Year-Old Killed In Dublin Road Accident
Gardaí have reported the death of a 65-year-old woman in a road accident this morning. It is understood the woman was struck by a lorry as it reversed down a lane way in Ranelagh, Dublin, at about 10am on Friday. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardaí have sealed the crash site pending a forensic examination.

Man Killed In Cork Work Site Accident
A man has been killed in a work site accident in Cork. It happened close to Gasworks lane, off Angelsea street at around 1pm. He is believed to have been in his early 20s. The site has been closed and the Health and Safety Authority has been informed.

Warning Issued Over Potentially Hazardous Material Stolen From Building Site
An investigation has been launched into the theft of potentially hazardous materials from a building site in Co Louth. Gardaí are investigating the theft of 20 insulation bales – four sheets per bale – from a building site at Strand Road, Termonfeckin, some time between 24 – 27 October this year.
