Final Day Of Labour 'Think-In' Focuses On Education and Child Rights

Ahead of the new Dáil term next week, education and children's rights will top the agenda at today’s final session of the Labour Party's seminar.

TDs and Senators, meeting in Maynooth, Co Kildare, will also discuss the national Broadband plan.

Yesterday's sessions dealt with the Social Protection and the Budgetary situation.

At Wednesday morning’s first session Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn outlined his plans to achieve equality through reform.

Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte lead a discussion on the national broadband plan.

Fine Gael's Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald and Fergus Finlay of Barnardos were the main speakers for the afternoon’s discussion on the children's rights referendum, expected in November.

Tributes To US 'Patriarch' Kennedy
Edward 'Ted' Kennedy has died from cancer aged 77. The veteran US senator (pictured) was the youngest brother of assassinated President John F Kennedy. Senator Kennedy's death comes just two weeks after his elder sister Eunice Kennedy Shriver passed away. A brief family statement said Mr Kennedy had died at home in Hyannis Port.

Govt Allocate €23m For Higher Education Innovation Fund
A total of €23 million has been awarded to projects across 23 higher education institutions as part of the new Innovation and Transformation fund. The programme was launched in 2018 as part of the modernisation and reform of the funding model for higher education.

Minister For Education Announces Action Plan For Disadvantaged Schools
The Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, has announced that a new Action Plan for disadvantaged schools will be published by the end of this year. Minister Bruton laid out his plan during a visit to a primary school in north Dublin.
