Taoiseach Addresses Béal na mBláth

The Government will not rest until Ireland has reclaimed and restored its economic sovereignty, Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said.

He was speaking at the Béal na mBláth commemoration in west Cork on Monday afternoon, the first serving Taoiseach to address the annual commemoration.

Mr Kenny paid tribute to Michael Collins who he described as a pragmatist and a passionate lover of Ireland.

He said the challenges that Michael Collins and his colleagues faced in the 1920s were as great as those that the Government faces today.

He lay one of four wreaths at the monument to mark the 90th anniversary of the death of Collins during an ambush at the site in August 1922.
