'Full Compliment' Of Lifeguards On Duty When 4-Year-Old Died

It has been revealed that more than 10 lifeguards were on duty when 4-year-old Loghan Joyce died while swimming at the National Aquatic Centre.

Last night the chief executive of the National Sports Campus Development Authority, Barry O’Brien, said “the full complement of lifeguards” was in attendance at the Aquazone area of the centre, in Abbotstown, Co Dublin, on Sunday when the tragedy occurred.

Mr O’Brien confirmed an investigation into the death of Loghan Joyce, was being carried out by the authority, which runs the centre, as well as by gardaí.

The boy was visiting the centre with his father and two sisters. He was swimming in the Aquazone section of the centre at about 6.30pm when the incident happened.

A postmortem is due to be carried out and an inquest into his death will be held.

The Aquazone section of the centre will remain closed until further notice.

4-Year-Old Boy Dies In Swimming Accident
A 4-year-old boy has died following an incident at the National Aquatic Centre in Abbotstown, Co Dublin yesterday. The boy was swimming with his father in the Aqua Zone section at about 6.30 pm yesterday evening when the accident happened, details of which have not been released.

Location Of New National Science Centre Announced

9,500 Calls Made To National Poisons Centre
The National Poisons Information Centre at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, have said the received 9,500 calls last year. The newly released figures suggest that 46% of calls concerned children under the age of five, with medicines and household products being the main items involved in the queries.
