James Nolan Funeral Held In Blessington

The funeral of James Nolan, who died in Poland during the European football championships, has taken place today in Blessignton, Co Wicklow

Hundreds of mourners gathered for the funeral mass of the student who drowned after falling into a river in the city of Bydgoszcz.

Irish goalkeeper Shay Given and FAI chief executive, John Delaney, were among the mourners.

Their aide-de-camp represented both the president and the taoiseach.

Mr Nolan's body was recovered from the river Brda on Wednesday after a major search operation was launched.

His family identified the body on Thursday, four days after the 21-year-old went missing during the Euro 2012 trip with friends.

Hundreds of residents from the city of Bydgoszcz lined the banks of the river in an outpouring of sympathy with his family and friends.
