Mayo Brothers Charged With IRA Membership Freed On Bail
The Special Criminal Court freed two Mayo brothers, who were charged earlier this week with explosives and IRA membership offences, on bail today.
31-year-old Colin Mannion and his brother Brian Mannion, 29, of Burriscarra, Clogher, Claremorris, were both charged on Monday with membership of an unlawful organisation , namely Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the Irish Republican Army (IRA) on June 9th.
They were also charged with the unlawful possession of explosive substances: RDX, PETN, one loaded detonator, two unloaded detonators and three electrical component parts at their home on the same date.
Brian Mannion was granted bail on his own bond of €100 and an independent surety of €20,000, provided by his parents Denis and Margaret Mannion.
And Colin Mannion was freed on his own bond of €100 and an independent surety of €14,000 provided by his mother, Mrs Margaret Mannion.
Both men were ordered to sign on daily at Castlebar Garda Station, to observe a curfew between 11pm and 8am and to surrender their passports. They were also ordered to reside at their home address at Burriscarra and not to leave the jurisdiction.
Both men were remanded until October 2nd next.

On-Duty Firefighter Arrested On Suspicion Of Drink Driving
A fireman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving while on duty behind the wheel of a fire engine. The man was driving a fire truck on the Callan Road, Kilkenny over the weekend and approached a checkpoint. It is believed he was returning from an emergency incident and failed a breath test. He was issued a fixed charged penalty notice.

Shoppers Fly North For The Winter
As the Euro value heads skywards, Irish shoppers are migrating north to cash in on the widening price gap. A survey by the National Consumer Council (NCC) has shown the disparity between the Republic's prices and that of the North is steadily growing, prompting shoppers to cross the border for their groceries.

Aer Lingus Strike Action Notice Served
Siptu will serve Aer Lingus with a strike notice today after last week's vote over the airline's proposed cost-cutting plan. The airline has recently put forward proposals that could see up to 1,500 jobs being outsourced to other firms as part of their planned €74 million in cuts.
