Garda Ombudsman Appeal For Witnesses After Man's Death

The Garda Ombudsman is appealing for witnesses after a man died after being arrested in Co Mayo.

Paraic O'Donnell, 39, from Achill Sound in Co Mayo, was arrested at Cox's when Gardaí were called to an incident at the late bar around 1am.

Mr O’Donnell was taken away by gardaí in a car, and subsequently died.

A post mortem will be carried out on the body of the unmarried father-of-one this afternoon.

The scene around the bar and the area around Castlebar Garda Station have been sealed off.

The incident was referred to the ombudsman's office early this morning, and the office is now investigating.

Woman 'Seriously Injured' By Gardaí Patrol Car
A woman is being treated in Tallaght Hospital after being hit by a Gardaí patrol car in Dublin. It is understood that the woman was "seriously injured" in the collision, which happened in Clondalkin at about 11:30 on Thursday. The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) have been informed of the incident and have begun an investigation.

PSNI Investigating Fatal Collision Near Bready, Co Tyrone
An investigation has been launched following a fatal road traffic collision near Bready, Co Tyrone. At around 1.40pm on Sunday, 07 April, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on the Victoria Road. When police arrived it was discovered that a white Seat Leon had left the carriageway close to the junction with Grangefoyle Road.

Man Dies In Garda Custody
The office of the Garda Ombudsman is investigating the death of a man in Garda custody last night. It is understood the man died in Tallaght Garda station shortly after he was arrested in the Dublin suburb yesterday evening. It is believed Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy referred an incident to the office at 9.30pm.
