Son Charged With Mother's Death

A 31-year-old male has been charged with assaulting and causing severe harm to his mother who was killed in an incident at her home in Co Kilkenny last Friday.

Niall Stapleton from Kilfane, Thomastown, was arrested after the funeral of his mother, Siobhán Stapleton, 51.

He was brought before Kilkenny district court today.

There was no application for bail and he has been remanded in custody.

He is to appear in Killkenny court next Tuesday.

Adopted Children 'Should Have Citizenship Right'
Foreign children adopted by Irish parents living abroad should still be entitled to Irish citizenship, a report by the Law Reform Commission has recommended. The commission's report, entitled 'Aspects of Intercountry Adoption Law', said that non-Irish national children should have the same rights as any other child of Irish parents.
