Three Year Sentence For Bus Driver Who Had Sex With 16-Year-Old

A former Bus Éireann driver has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of defilement of a minor.

Sentenced at Waterford Circuit Court this morning, the court had heard how Anthony Cheasty, 49, from Ferrybank in Waterford had sex with a 16-year-old girl on a company bus.

The incidents occurred in Co Waterford a number of years ago and Cheasty had been communicating with the girl at the time by text.

The last 18 months of his sentence have been suspended.

A Waterford bus driver has been found not guilty of the murder of his wife in 2006. John O'Brien, 41, of Ballinakill Downs, denied murdering 35-year-old Meg Walsh. Translink Workers Reject Pay Offer
Translink NI workers have rejected a pay offer from the public transport company. Unite, GMB and SIPTU confirmed that their members has "decisively voted to reject as inadequate" a pay offer made by Translink management. Workers were offered a 5% pay increase and a non-consolidated one-off payment of £1,500 for the 2023-2024 financial year.

Bus lanes around Dublin city should be opened to traffic during the ongoing Dublin Bus strike, a Fianna Fáil (FF) Senator has said. FF party spokesperson Darragh O'Brien, has called on the Minister for Transport to open up all bus lanes in Dublin to help commuters affected by the Dublin Bus strike.
