Decrease of 14.6% In New Private Cars Licensed

There were 10,581 new private cars licensed in March 2012, compared with 12,390 in March 2011, a decrease of 14.6%.

The number of new goods vehicles licensed in March 2012 was 1,155 compared with 1,179 in the corresponding month last year - a decrease of 2.0%.

The licensing figures also show that:

•In March 2012, the total number of all vehicles licensed was 17,171 compared with 19,307 in the corresponding month last year - a decrease of 11.1%. See Table 1 below.

•The total number of all new vehicles licensed during March 2012 was 12,568 compared with 14,483 during the same month in 2011 - a decrease of 13.2%.

•In March, of the 10,581 new private cars licensed, 2,568 (24.3%) were petrol and 7,705 (72.8%) were diesel. See Table 2A below.

•The highest number of new private cars licensed in March 2012, classified by make, was Nissan (1,410) followed by Volkswagen (1,257), Toyota (1,140) and Renault (947).

Benone Pub Death Case For Court
A teenager is to appear in court today relating to the death of Gary Butcher. The victim aged 39 and from Magilligan - died after a disturbance in Bob's Bar and Bistro on the Seacoast Road between Limavady and Benone - late on Friday night/early Saturday morning. A 25-year-old who had also been arrested was released on bail.

New Cars Sales 'Brake By A Third'
Government statistics have revealed that the number of new cars licensed in November fell by 34.9% when compared to last year. The Central Statistics Office said there were 1,398 new private cars licensed in November 2011, compared with 2,146 in November 2010.

Unemployment Rise Faltering
Unemployment levels across the State are levelling out. New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that the numbers signing on the live register decreased by a small amount in April. Seasonally adjusted figures show the Live Register fell by 500 during April, to stand at 432,500 at the end of the month.

Car Sales Drop 18% In One Month
Car Sales in Ireland are the latest casualty of the credit crunch. The total number of new private cars licensed last month was down 18% for April 2007 according to figures released from the CSO today. The total of vehicles licensed dropped by 11% last month compared to April last year.

New Vehicle Registrations Down 40%
The number of new vehicles licensed in September has fallen by over a third, it has been revealed today. According to new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) new vehicle production was down 37.6% compared to the same month last year. However, although the drop is steep, it is not as big as the 73% and 64.
