Civil Servants Check Passports At Dublin Airport

A pilot scheme has seen civil servants replacing gardaí for passport control duties at Dublin Airport.

During daytime hours civil servants from the Department of Justice take over immigration control duties at Pier B in Terminal 1 at Dublin Airport.

Gardaí remain on duty outside these hours. They are continue to be in charge of all immigration control duties in the rest of Terminal 1 and in all of Terminal 2.

If successful the pilot scheme will spread to all airports and ferry ports across the country.

400 Jobs To Be Created In T2 Retail Outlets
The Dublin Airport Authority has revealed some 400 retail jobs will be created when Terminal Two (T2) opens in November. The terminal will open 40 retail outlets, including shops, restaurants and bars, with the first top bidding retailers announced as House of Ireland, WHSmith, Azure, Swatch Group, and cosmetics company Jo Malone.

Cork Airport Accepts Debt Deal
Cork Airport Authority (CAA) has put an end to their long-running dispute with Dublin Airport by accepting recommendations that it assume millions of euros in debt as the price of independence. Last night, the CAA held a crunch meeting and agreed 'in principle' to accept the debt, in return for its independent operations.

Construction Worker Killed In Dublin Airport
Another construction worker has died during an accident at Dublin Airport this morning. It is understood the man was struck by a small bulldozer on the apron of the runway at the front of the old terminal building. Gardai and the Health and Safety authority have launched an investigation into the incident.

Drugs And Cigarettes Seized At Dublin Airport
Two people have been arrested at Dublin Airport after it was discovered they had ingested pellets of cannabis resin worth an estimated €14,000. Revenue officers stopped the man and woman, both aged in their 50s, at the airport on Thursday 24 March, when they arrived in Dublin airport on a flight from Seville.
