Girl Hit By Train In Stable Condition

A young girl hit by a train in Co Tipperary on Monday night is in a stable condition in hospital today, it has emerged this morning.

Three separate investigations are continuing after the child, who is understood to be around eight years old, made her way onto the track near Tipperary town and was hit by a train that was travelling from Limerick Junction to Waterford.

Jane Cregan, sokesperson for Irish Rail, said that efforts were underway to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

"Well if there's any incident such as this, Iarnród Éireann would always notify the Rail Accident Investigation Unit, who would go to the scene…” she said.

"The gardaí would also be informed. Our own safety department in Iarnród Éireann are also launching an investigation this morning."

Irish Rail 'Aware Viaduct Fail Was Imminent'
An independent report into the collapse of a bridge on the main Belfast to Dublin railway line has claimed Irish Rail was aware the structure might fail, but did nothing. Iarnród Éireann And Bus Éireann Increase Fares
Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Transport, Tourism and Sport, Timmy Dooley TD, says increasing fares across the CIE group is not the answer to falling passenger numbers. Deputy Dooley was reacting to the fare increases which came into effect this morning for Luas, Dublin Bus, Iarnród Éireann and Bus Éireann services.

DART Derailed By Vandals
The derailing of a DART train near Bray station on Tuesday night has been blamed on vandals. Iarnród Éireann have said that an investigation has revealed that rocks may have been dislodged from a wall above the tracks.

Text Protest Launched Over Train Announcements
A protest has been launched over the quality of Iarnród Éireann's audio announcements on trains. The group is urging blind people, the visually impaired and their supporters to send text messages to the press officers of Iarnród Éireann.
