Former IFA President Jailed Over Fine Non-Payment
Former Irish Farmers' Association president John Dillon has been sent to Limerick prison for failure to pay a fine.
He was fined for the use of three electronic display adverts during his failed bid for a Dáil seat during the 2011 General Election.
Dillon refused to pay the €200 fine plus €2,000 in expenses to Limerick County Council.
He believes his jailing is politically motivated.

Eight Fine Gael TDs Say Incremental Pay Increases Should Be Examined
Incremental pay increases and allowances for higher-paid public service workers should be examined for possible savings, according to eight Fine Gael TDs. In an article in the Irish Examiner, the group said these two areas are not part of the Croke Park Agreement and that pay increases must be put back on the table to correct the budget deficit.

Time For Govt To Act On Gender Pay Gap
Marking EU Equal Pay Day 2018, Labour has said that it is time for the Government to act on the Gender Pay Gap in Ireland. Last month, the Seanad passed all stages of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (Gender Pay Gap) Information Bill 2017, a Private Members Bill initiated by the Labour group in the Seanad.

Ibec has slammed plans by the Low Pay Commission for a 50c increase in the national minimum wage. The group, which represents Irish business, said the case is at odds with all the economic evidence. It also said the increase would heap pressure on companies still struggling to stay in business.

Former Fine Gael deputy leader Peter Barry has died at the age of 88. Mr Barry, a businessman from Cork and the man behind the Barry's Tea brand, served as minister for foreign affairs and played a key role in the Anglo-Irish Agreement. The Taoiseach Enda Kenny led tributes to Mr Barry.

Voting Takes Place For Meath By-Election
Voting will take place today in the Meath By-Election. There are eleven candidates for the seat. The turnout is believed to be poor due to the adverse weather conditions. The seat was made vacant after the death of former Fine Gael TD Shane McEntee. People can vote until 9pm tonight.
