Irish President Begins Official Trip To London

The Irish President Michael D Higgins begins his first official trip to London today.

It is his first overseas trip since he was recently inaugurated.

The President and his wife will tour London's Olympic Games site as part of the two day visit. He will also meet with Irish emigrants.

He has appointed an Irish woman living in Britain to the Council of State as an advisor on emigrant affairs.

The President will also visit the Camden Irish Centre and attend a performance of 'Juno and Paycock' involving the Abbey Theatre and the National Theatre of Great Britain.

President Higgins To Visit London
President Michael D Higgins is to visit London later this month on his first official trip abroad. He will begin his three day tour on 21st February where he will visit the London Irish Centre. The President will travel to the Olympic Park and meet Lord Coe, President of the Olympic Games organising committee.

McAleese To Visit London Olympics Site
Irish President Mary McAleese will visit the 2012 Olympics site in London during a two-day trip to England this week. Members of the Olympic Delivery Authority will greet the President before giving her a tour of the 2.5 sq km park, the Press Association reports.

Jewish Groups Slam Award For Robinson
A pro-Israeli lobby group has slammed the selection of former Irish President to be awarded a civic honour by Barack Obama. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) expressed concern at the award saying Mary Robinson was "anti-Israeli" and described her tenure on the UNHRC as "deeply flawed".
