Byrne Condemns Bin Bully Tactics
A Fine Gael TD for Dublin South Central has hit out at what she described as Greyhound’s "bully tactics", after the company told 18,000 customers in Dublin their bins will not be collected this week unless they pay upfront.
Responding to the decision, Catherine Byrne said the company, Greyhound, had resorted to a "new low", after they told householders in Dublin their bins would not be collected if they hadn’t signed up to the new private waste service, which was introduced by the company just a month ago.
Ms Byrne said: “I find it unbelievable that the company would try to enforce such a harsh policy on its customers, when they have so dismally failed to get its own act together. It’s pitiful that the company would go to this extreme, by threatening customers that their bins won’t be collected unless they pay up this week."
“The handling of this entire affair has been a shambles. Greyhound took over the bin collection service from Dublin City Council a month ago with no notice and they have consistently failed to get on top of its customer service since then."
Ms Byrne said the company refused to make exceptions, and that anyone who hadn’t paid the €100 annual charge, or an initial charge of €50, by this Thursday won’t have their bins collected.
"There is no need for such a punitive approach," the TD said.
