Minister Welcomes 175 Jobs For Sligo
The Minister for Small Business, John Perry TD, has welcomed the announcement by Abbott that it is to invest €85million in the expansion of its Sligo pharmaceutical facility with the creation of up to 175 jobs.
The expansion is being made with the support of the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.
Welcoming the announcement made by the company today, the Minister said: "Abbott is a world-leading company and a hugely important employer in Sligo, and the announcement that it is expanding its facility there by investing €85million with the creation of 175 high-quality jobs is a fantastic announcement for the county.
"Up to 150 jobs will also be created in the construction phase up to 2014. It is a huge boost for the region which like many others has suffered from the mistakes of recent years through a high unemployment rate.
"These jobs have been created with the support of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland. I commend all involved, in particular the staff and management of Abbott in Sligo who, as the company has said, have played such an important role in making this announcement a possibility.
"I am determined that through the continued hard work of everyone across Government and in the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, further announcements like this will become a possibility across the country in the coming years."
