Emer Í Chuív Dies Aged 93
Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has expressed his sympathy on the death of Emer Í Chuív, mother of the Fianna Fáil Deputy Leader Éamon Ó Cuív.
Emer passed away in hospital in Dublin this morning surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was 93 years of age. Emer Í Chuív was the last surviving daughter of Fianna Fáil Founder and first Taoiseach of Ireland Éamon de Valera. She was married to Brian Ó Cuív, renowned Irish language professor, and they had nine children.
Mr Martin said: "Éamon has often spoken of how his mother greatly encouraged him to enter politics and was a great source of strength to him throughout his political career.
"She was particularly proud when he was appointed as Minister of State with special responsibility for the Gaeltacht, Irish language and island development in 1997, and was subsequently elected to Cabinet as Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs in 2002. Éamon’s loss, and that of his brothers and sisters, is immense today.
"I wish to extend my deepest sympathies and that of the Fianna Fáil party to Éamon and his family at this difficult time."

Immediate Action Urged In Driving Licence Issue Delays
Immediate action has been called for to tackle an 8 week delay in the processing of new driving licences. Raising the issue with the Dáil, Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Transport, Tourism and Sport, Timmy Dooley, said that it was unacceptable motorists had to wait so long for their driving licences.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Dies At Donegal Rally
Tributes have been paid to Donegal Fianna Fáil Councillor Manus Kelly who died while competing at the Donegal International Rally. The motor racing champion, who had won the event for the last three years, was killed after his Hyundai i20 R5 left the road on stage 15 of Sunday's race.
