HSE To Cut Frontline Services

The HSE is planning to to take away 555 public beds in community nursing units as a result of budget cuts.

The Executive has published its service plan for 2012 warning the total cost savings are €750 million following from €1.75 billion over the past 2 years.

In the plan, CEO Mr Cathal Magee, said: "A key driver of cost reductions for 2012 will be the exit of a further 3,000 staff from the health services. Together with a budget reduction of €750m, the challenge will be to accelerate the implementation of the National Clinical Programmes and the new models of care  and continue to drive efficiencies in order to offset the impacts on frontline services."

The use of agency staff is also to be cut in half.
