Science Students Show The Way Forward
Minister for Research and Innovation, Seán Sherlock T.D. visited the BT Young Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition at the RDS. Now in its 48th year, it is the longest running science exhibition in the world. This year’s exhibition is larger than ever having received over 1,743 entries from over 3,800 students.
During his visit Minister Sherlock took the opportunity to discuss the projects of students from a number of Cork schools in the Minister’s constituency, as well as the Patents Office and Science Foundation Ireland stands. The Minister also visited Covidien and EMC's exhibitions among others.
Minister Sherlock said: "The high quality of the projects on display here today demonstrates the interest that our young students take in science and technology. The time and effort put into developing these exhibits is clearly evident and this is a credit to the students, teachers, parents and schools.
"I am very encouraged by the scientific aptitude, talent and imagination demonstrated by the students. With the growth of the Irish economy becoming increasingly dependent on the scientific and technological skills of its workforce, the quality of the exhibits here augurs very well for Ireland's future and the growth of businesses that will create the jobs of the future."

Festivals And Events Across Ireland For National Science Week
Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) have announced an investment of almost €480,000 to support festivals and events across the country as part of national Science Week (SW). A total of 13 festivals and 13 unique events will be held between 10th - 17th November, with this years SW theme being climate action.

The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) provides details of student achievement in maths and science at primary level in 50 countries.

Cork Science Leads Exhibition
Cork delegates are leading the way at this year's BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, getting under way in Dublin later today. Thousands of students, teachers, parents and business leaders are expected to attend the event at the RDS, at which almost 15% of the participating teams are from Cork.

O'Keeffe Opens Cork Science Labs
Irish Minister for Education and Science, Batt O'Keeffe was on hand yesterday to open two new science laboratories in St Fanahan’s College, Mitchelstown, Co Cork. The new laboratories are the result of an investment of more than €260,000 under the Department’s Summer Works Scheme.
