Protest As Gilmore Attends Israeli Films
The Labour leader will be greeted by banners, whistles, flags and drums as he attends an Israeli film festival on Thursday, but they will not be welcomed greetings.
The Irish Anti-War Movement (IAWM) has announced it will be staging a protest against Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore's appearance at The gala opening of a four-day festival of Israeli film being held in Dublin on Thursday to Sunday, 24-27 November.
A spokesman for the movement said: "It is outrageous that the event is being attended by Foreign Affairs Minister Eamon Gilmore given his reticence on criticising the Israeli State over its recent attack on the MV Saorise and its Irish Passengers in international waters.
"We should let him know of our anger. Some of the passengers of the MV Saoirse will be in attendance at the protest."
The movement invited its supporters to bring banners, whistles, flags and drums to make it a "noisy colourful protest" to highlight the "continued subjugation" of the Palestinian people by the Israeli state.
The protest event will be followed by a Public Meeting with the MV Saoirse passengers at 8.00pm in Wynnes Hotel, Abbey Street.
