Record Turnout For Dublin Marathon
A record number of people are set to compete in the Dublin Marathon this Halloween with a noted 14,000 contenders; meanwhile motorists are being warned of road closures and diversions.
As thousands of people get set to pound the pavement for the 26 mile circuit across the city, it has been revealed that traffic diversions will affect the Rock Road, Merrion Square, Nassau Street and St Stephen's Green.
Jim Aughney, Race Director said: "Last year saw a record entry of over 13,000 runners and two new course records set."
"This year, we're looking at another record level of participation and one of the strongest ever international and domestic elite fields," he added.
The marathon victor Kenyan Moses Kangogo Kibet is hoping to hold onto his 2010 title and cross the Merrion Square North finish line first. Kibet set a new course record last year of 2.08.58.
The Dublin marathon will be televised on RTE from 9.15am until 1.35pm.
