New Seanad To Meet Today
The new Seanad is to meet this afternoon.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 2.30pm, when 60 new Senators, including Dr Martin McAleese, husband of the President will meet for the first time.
Chair of the Seanad will be David Norris, who has the longest continual service.
Paddy Burke is expected to be elected the new Cathaoirleach.
The new Seanad leader will later take their place, with former Fine Gael TD Deirdre Clune in the running.
However, next year the Government is expected to hold a constitutional referendum on the issue of abolishing the Seanad.

Recall Seanad Over Tyrrelstown Evictions - SF
Sinn Féin want to recall the Seanad in an effort to help stop the eviction of residents in Tyrrelstown. Senators Trevor Ó Clochartaigh and Kathryn Reilly have written to the Cathaoirleach and Clerk of the Seanad to request a recall.

'No Option For Reform On The Ballot Paper', Referendum Commission Confirms
Fine Gael Deputy Director of Elections for the Seanad Abolition Referendum, Regina Doherty TD, has welcomed clarification from the Chair of the independent Referendum Commission, Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne, that there will be no option for reform on the ballot paper, when voters are asked whether they want to abolish the Seanad on October 4th.
