Garda Continue Search For Roscommon Robbers

Gardaí at Castlerea are investigating a robbery and abduction which took place on Wednesday at Clonfad, Co. Roscommon.

Between the hours of 11pm and 8am, four masked men entered a private house adjoining a Post Office and tied up the male resident. They then travelled with this man to another house, where they took the occupants of the second house, two females and a male, and the man back to the original location adjoining post office.

Local Gardaí became suspicious and travelled to the post office. A Garda officer confronted the four suspects and was attacked by the men, who were armed with shovels and bars. The Garda received minor injuries. No other person was injured during the incident.

The men escaped in a green Volkswagen hatchback car with a 06-Mayo registration number.

Searches are continuing for these men.

No money was taken from the Post Office.

Gardaí at Castlerea are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Clonfad and Williamstown yesterday evening and who saw anything suspicious or who may have information in relation to the car, to come forward.

Both locations are currently being preserved for a Garda technical examination.
