Suspicious Device Found On Border

A suspicious object has been reported in a Co Fermanagh village.

The object was spotted on the roadside of Dernawilt Road in Rosslea.

DUP representative for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, Arlene Foster has condemned those responsible.

Ms Foster commented: "The people who engage in terrorist activity of this kind have absolutely no support within the wider community. People in Fermanagh and South Tyrone have no desire to allow these fanatical criminals to drag our community backwards.

"The fact that the device was left very close to the home of a serving councillor [Harold Andrews] in Fermanagh is especially sinister.

"I offer my support to Harold Andrews. I would appeal to anyone who spotted anything suspicious or who knows anything about this incident to share their information with the police," she said.

"The terrorists will not succeed and we will not allow our community to be dragged backwards in to the dark days of violence and bloodshed."

Police are now investigating and have asked local people to be wary of any other objects seen in the area.

Earlier this week, a bomb warning phone call was made to the Samaritans which resulted in 20 families being evacuated from their homes and serious disruption in the Oldpark area of north Belfast.

A number of controlled explosions were carried out in the area by the Army before the PSNI declared the bomb threat a hoax.

A man has today appeared in court charged in connection with the hoax bomb incident. Gerard Chapman, from Antigua Street is also charged with claiming to belong to the Continuity IRA and was remanded in custody to appear in court again at a later date.
