Arrest In Missing Woman Investigation

A 21-year-old woman has been arrested in Co.Mayo in connection with the disappearance of a woman more than ten years ago.

Sandra Collins, 29, disappeared from the village of Killala, Co. Mayo, on December 4, 2000.

The 21-year-old was arrested on Wednesday morning and is being questioned at Ballina Garda Station. It is understood that she was arrested on suspicion of withholding information and is being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The arrest follows a recent appeal by gardaí for new information about the disappearance of Ms Collins. In that appeal, gardaí had requested information about a white van which had been seen in Killala around the time of Sandra's disappearance.

Ms Collins was last seen around 11:15pm on December 4, 2000 at the village's local takeaway, The Country Kitchen.

Earlier this month, it was reported that a number of new witnesses had come forward in the case.
