Two Die In Cork House Fire

Two people have died in an house fire in Co Cork early this morning.

The blaze broke out at about 5.15am in East Ferry, Midleton. It is believed the victims were an elderly brother and sister.

A Garda spokesman said investigations are being carried out to establish the cause of the fire but is not believed to be suspicious. The scene has been sealed off for technical examination.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are today calling for witnesses after a man and woman narrowly escaped a petrol attack on their home in Kildare on Saturday evening. Gardai in Athy Co Kildare said today they are investigating the incident in which a petrol canister was placed at the front door of a house on the Castledermot Road in Athy Co Kildare at approximately 6.30pm this evening 22nd January 2011.

The canister was set alight and caused substantial damage to the door and surrounding parts of the house. A man and a woman were in the house at the time but no one was injured in the incident.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or carrying what may have been a petrol canister in the Castledermot Road area between 6.00pm and 6.30am to contact Gardai in Athy on 059-8634210.

Three Die In Separate House Fires
Two men and a woman have died in three separate house fires in Limerick and Kerry. In the latest incident, a man in his 60s died following a house fire in Tralee in Co Kerry. The fire broke out in the terraced house in Connolly Park at about 9.30pm yesterday. Gardaí were called to the scene at around 9.

Petrol Bombs Thrown At House In Waterford City
Gardaí have issued an appeal for information following a petrol bomb attack on a house in Waterford city on Tuesday night. At about 3am last night three petrol bombs were thrown at a house on Dominic's Place. There was fire damage to the house but there have been no reports of any injuries.
