Mans Body Found In Wicklow Village

The body of a man has been found in a Wicklow village last night.

Gardaí are treating the death in Avoca, Co Wicklow, as suspicious, and it is believed the man died in violent circumstances.

The body of the 48-year-old was found on the main street of the village at around 9.15pm.

The man was believed to have been last seen alive outside Fitzgerald's pub on the Main Street shortly after 9pm.

It is understood he was punched during the course of a row.

A woman who was driving through the village alerted gardaí to the man's body. Gardaí are believed to be following a definite line of inquiry in the case.

The body remains at the scene, which has been sealed off for a forensic examination, and a garda technical team is due to arrive later.

All access to Avoca village is restricted today. Motorists have been advised to avoid the village and expect major traffic disruption in the area.

AA Roadwatch says the restrictions will affect traffic travelling to and from Woodenbridge, Rathdrum and Aughrim.
