Waterford Institute Work Set To Start

Building work on the development of the Waterford Institute is to get underway soon.

The Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has just announced that the second bundle of public-private partnership (PPP) projects in the third-level sector are going to market.

The second bundle of PPP projects, which were handed over to the National Development Finance Agency (NDFA), consists of two projects in Waterford Institute of Technology, and four projects in the Institute of Technology in Tallaght.

An 8,000 sq/m Engineering Building and a Business and Enterprise Building with a floor area of over 4,000 sq/m will be built at WIT.

Announcing the move, the Tánaiste said: "I'm pleased that the pre-procurement work has been completed for the second bundle of PPP projects in the third-level sector and the project can now be offered to the market.

"The total scale of the new projects is over 39,400 sqm," she said and added that the projects were strategically important investments for the smart economy and would create jobs in construction at a challenging time for the sector.

The National Development Finance Agency has started the tendering process and it's expected that the building projects will be completed by mid 2013.
