Two Arrested Over Mountain Bike Hit

Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting of 32-year-old Dublin man, Stephen Byrne.

Gardai investigating the shooting, which occurred in Sherriff Street, Dublin on the 13th of July, revealed this morning they arrested two more males in connection with the incident.

A male, 25, was arrested Friday evening and another male, aged 20, was arrested on Saturday afternoon. Both are being detained at Store Garda Station under Sec 30 of the Offences Against The State Act 1939 as amended.

During the incident Stephen Byrne was shot dead at about 4.30pm at the junction of St Laurence Place East and Sheriff Street in Dublin’s north inner city.

A gunman approached on a mountain bike as Byrne was talking to a group of people. He was shot in the head and chest before the killer, who used a handgun, escaped on the bike.

Last week, Gardaí arrested two boys, aged 15 and 16 years, and a man in his 20s. All three were believed to have been among the group talking to Byrne just before he was shot.

They have since been released from Garda custody without charge.

Gardai believe Byrne’s murder is linked to a gangland feud between rival factions based in the Sheriff Street area.
