Road Death Toll Growing

Gardaí in Borris, Co Carlow are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Ballyine, Co Carlow at 12.45am this morning.

A man of 68 was injured when the car in which he was the sole occupant collided with a wall.

He was brought to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Carlow Garda Station on 059-9136620.

In the North too, a man has also died in a car crash - this time just across the border - on the main road between Strabane and Londonderry.

The accident happened on the Victoria Road at about 10.30pm on Sunday. The name of the person who was killed has not yet been released and the Victoria Road has been closed following the accident and diversions put in place

Meanwhile, officers in New Ross, Wexford are investigating another fatal road smash, this time involving a motorbike and a van on the N25 between New Ross and Ballinaboola, Wexford at almost 1am on Sunday.

The motorcyclist, a male in his late 30s was fatally injured and has been removed to Waterford Regional Hospital.

The driver of the van and his two passengers were uninjured. The road is closed at present and diversions are in place.

Gardai would appeal for anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them at New Ross Garda Station on 051 426030 or The Garda Confidential Telephone 1800 666 111.

It has also been revealed that a second man has been arrested in connection with a car crash in Cork in which two teenagers died.

CJ Dolan, 16, and Derry O'Callaghan, who was 19, both died after the car they were travelling in was struck by another car on Harbour View Road in Knocknaheeny last Thursday night.

A 20-year-old man was arrested and brought to Gurranabraher Garda Station for questioning.

A 40-year-old man has already appeared in court on related charges.

Garda Appeal For Witnesses To Fatal Road Accident
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses of a fatal road accident in Co Kerry. A 24-year-old man died when the car he was driving hit a wall on the N69 Tralee-Listowel Road in Glenballyma in Tralee. The accident happened at about 21:45 on Saturday. A post-mortem is due to be carried out today.

Garda have detained a man in connection with a fatal road crash in Co Mayo on Sunday, 08 May. A 41-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his bike collided with a van on the N26 at Ballinahaglush at around 3.45pm. A man was arrested and is being detained at Ballina Garda Station.

Garda Appeal For Witnesses To Fatal Road Accident
Gardaí in Bray have appealed for witnesses to fatal road accident in Newtownmountkennedy, just before 8am on Monday morning. A 58-year-old male was seriously injured when his car crashed into a ditch at Kilmullen Lane. Paramedics treated the man at the scene, however, he was pronounced a short time later.

Witness Appeal After Fatal Road Traffic Accident In Ballybofey
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a fatal road traffic accident on the main Letterkenny to Sligo Road in Ballybofey, Donegal. A female driver, aged in her late 20s, was fatally injured when her car collided with a truck at about 7am on Friday morning. The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Examination.

Young Man Killed In Donegal Collision
A young man has been killed, and two others injured in Donegal collision. Gardai at Ballyshannon are now investigating the fatal road traffic collision, which occurred at The Rock, Ballyshannon, Co.Donegal at approximately 2.15am this morning. The 21-year-old male died when the car in which he was driving collided with a wall.
