Appeal Follows Pedestrian's Car Accident

An appeal has been launched after a car struck a pedestrian on Tuesday night in Dublin.

Gardaí at Malahide are investigating the serious road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 10.30pm on Tuesday at Carrickhill Road, Portmarnock, Co. Dublin.

The collision involved a blue Hyundai Accent car and a 52-year-old male pedestrian.

The man was taken to Beaumont hospital with serious head injuries and was placed in ICU.

His condition is presently described as being serious but stable.

The 21-year-old female driver of the Hyundai was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, with minor injuries.

Gardaí have asked that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has any information to offer is asked to contact Gardaí at Malahide on 01 6668600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

Meanwhile this week, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) launched their newest road safety resource, Simon and Friends, with help from the children of the Sophia Housing Association crèche.

Chairman Mr Gay Byrne revealed the new safety educational programme aims to promote and encourage road safety among children aged five and under.

Speaking at the launch on Moday, Mr Byrne said: “I am delighted to launch ‘Simon and Friends’ today, the newest addition to our child-centred road safety initiatives. Children learn good habits from a young age and it’s never too early to start educating young people on how to be safe on the road. But it’s also important to do this in a child-friendly way that it is understandable and interesting to the youngest of our road-users.”
