Nursing Home Project Underway

The construction of a new nursing home in Dublin is to get underway shortly.

It is part of a new €20 million private nursing home development planned for the Newmarket/Mill Street area of south inner city Dublin, which is due to begin in mid summer.

When built and running of it is expected to bring up to 270 jobs to area.

Developer Martin Creedon said Dublin City Council granted planning permission and that the home is expected to be ready in the middle of next year.

Construction is expected to last 12 months, leading to 150 jobs during the build, while a further 120 administration and nursing posts will become available on completion.

"This is a very exciting project for an area of the city that has suffered badly in the downturn," Mr Creedon said.

"We hope to transform a derelict site into a top class nursing home which will provide 120 skilled and unskilled permanent jobs many of which can be taken up by local people."

The nursing home will be sited next to St James' Hospital and Mr Creedon said it is hoped it will be able to accommodate elderly people living in the area needing nursing home care.

Mr Creedon said the bulk of the new jobs on completion will be in administration and auxiliary services, while around 25% will be in nursing.

Meanwhile, Fianna Fail's Pat the Cope Gallagher has revealed that a prequalification of contractors notice for the refurbishment and extension of Scoil Naomh Chonaill, Bunbeg has been approved.

It will consist of five mainstream classrooms, resource room, learning support, special classroom, library, staff room, office and general-purpose area.

Pat the Cope welcomed the news and confirmed that a short list of contractors should be established soon after the notice went live on www.etenders.gov.ie

The closing date for the prequalification of contractors notice will be 17th May.
