College Green Bus Corridor Re-Starts

The bus corridor at College Green in Dublin city centre will begin again during the evening peak traffic period from today.

The project was suspended by the City Council in mid-November to cope with the Christmas shopping period.

Under the scheme, only buses, taxis and cyclists will be allowed to travel through College Green corridor between 4pm and 7pm.

The College Green Bus Corridor came into effect in July last year. It restricts traffic through College Green during the morning and evening peak traffic periods from Monday to Friday to allow traffic flow through the city to reduce commuting times.

College Greeen in known as one of the major bottlenecks in the Dublin traffic network.

The scheme operates from 7am to 10am each morning and from 4pm to 7pm each evening. During these periods, only public transport vehicles and bicycles will have access to the College Green location.

There is no operation of the scheme on Saturdays or Sundays.

BoI Building To Become Cultural And Heritage Centre
Bank of Ireland's landmark College Green building is to handed over to the government for 10 years and turned into a state-run cultural and heritage centre. The government will convert the building as part of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht's 'Decade of Centenaries' programme, which launched in 2012.

A long-awaited ban on cars in one of Dublin's busiest streets during rush hour is being anticipated today. Drivers have been warned to plan ahead to avoid predicted traffic chaos when private cars are re-routed away from College Green from next Monday.
