Border Aircraft Crash Reported

The crash of a small aircraft was reported this morning, just across the border in Co Fermanagh.

It happened at about 10am in the Boho area of the lakeland county, when, it seems nearby St Angelo Airport received a call about the incident.

However, according to a spokesman, neither NI Ambulance Service - which sent out a rapid response vehicle - nor the fire service was able to find anything.

A fire service spokeswoman said there was a report that an aircraft came down.

"Police are co-ordinating the search and we have five crews assisting," he stated.

A PSNI spokesman explained both organisations are involved in a ground search and are also checking local lakes, following reports that a light aircraft was seen in difficulty there this morning

He added: "The search is being hampered by poor weather and visibility conditions which for the present have ruled out aerial searches. At this stage we have no reports of any aircraft being missing."

Last July, another aircraft crash took place in Co Fermanagh. A sixty-year-old couple was travelling from Prestwick (Scotland) to Galway and they got into difficulties when intending on stopping at the St Angelo airfield in Enniskillen.

The woman had to be cut from the plane and airlifted to hospital although her life was not threatening. Her husband, the pilot of the plane, didn't sustain any serious injuries.
