Dublin Airport Police Officer Arrested Over Drugs

A member of the Dublin Airport Police and Fire Service has been arrested after cocaine and cannabis were found in his home.

The contraband, worth around €130,000, was found by detectives in a house occupied by the airport employee and his young family.

The Dublin Airport Authority has since confirmed the staff member in his late 30s has been suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation.

Gardaí from the local drugs unit in Santry raided the house in the Swords area as part of a planned operation. They found 5kgs of cannabis herb, 1kg of cocaine and an assortment of drugs paraphernalia.

It is understood the officer has been working at the airport for a number of years.

Meanwhile, almost €500 million worth of smuggled cigarettes hidden in amplifiers and computers and disguised as medical packaging has been seized in the same airport.

Customs officials found more than one million black-market cigarettes in three separate seizures at the cargo terminal over the last five days. The largest discovery was made in 100 boxes, labelled as pharmaceutical packaging, which arrived on a flight from Dubai.

Officers who searched the consignment found one million Richman cigarettes worth €398,000.
