Teen Arrested After Cork Death

A 17-year-old is being held by police after a fatal stabbing incident in County Cork.

Gardaí at Gurranabraher Garda station are investigating the death of a 30-year-old man at a house in Blarney, Cork at about 9pm on Saturday. The incident happened at the Ard Na Greine estate in the town and the man, named locally as Shannon Ruby (30), was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 17-year-old male was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Gurranabtaher Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Mr Ruby, originally from Knocknasuff in Blarney, had been living with his partner and six-month-old child in Youghal in east Cork. He had been in Blarney visiting a family member who lives in the Ard na Gréine estate.

A row is then believed to have broken out in the kitchen area of the house where Mr Ruby suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest.

The area is sealed off for forensic technical examination and, according to Gardaí, a post mortem will carried out on the dead man today.

Garda have appealed for anyone who may have been in the Ard Na Greinearea between 8pm and 9pm on Saturday, and heard or saw anything unusual to contact Gurranabraher Garda Station on 021 4946200.
