Tourist Rescued From Cliff On Howth Head

The Coast Guard has rescued a tourist who was trapped on a cliff edge on Howth Head.

The coast guard said it received an emergency call after the man, aged in his 30s, became trapped on a cliff edge 50m above a beach at Whitewater Brook.

Members of the public are understood to have directed the helicopter to the man via a 999 call.

Escaped Prisoner Recaptured

Garda have recaptured an escaped prisoner, who has been on the run since mid-December.

23-year-old Lee McDonnell escaped a prison transport van when it stopped for lunch during a return journey to the prison after a hospital appointment.

Garda said that Mr McDonnell was spotted at Rowlagh Avenue in Ronanstown, west Dublin, just before 17:00 on Sunday.

He was recaptured after a chase.

Garda Investigate Two Fires In Waterford

Gardaí are investigating two separate arson attacks in Waterford which occurred over the weekend.

A family resource centre in Ballybeg and a clubhouse at the areas only GAA club were both destroyed in fires in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Garda said they do not know the cause of either fire yet, or if the fires are connected, but that forensic examinations are being carried out on both sites.

Fires Claim Two Irish Lives
An elderly woman has died following a Dublin house fire. The blaze was in the Sutton area, in the north of the capital and broke out at a house on Offington Drive at around 11pm. A woman in her 70s was alone in the house at the time and was rushed to Beaumont Hospital, but died a short time later.

Escaped Prisoner Recaptured In Belfast
An escaped prisoner is being treated in hospital in Belfast after stabbing himself in the abdomen outside a city centre bar. Derek Brockwell, 53, escaped custody on Tuesday after he attacked two prison guards at Tallaght Hospital. Brockwell was serving a seven year prison sentence at Portlaoise Prison for armed robbery in 2012.

Investigation Launches Into Dublin Bus Fire
An investigation has been launched into a fire on a Dublin Bus. The Fire Brigade was called to the out of service bus after it caught fire at about 13:00 in the Harold's Cross area. There were no passengers on board the bus at the time and the driver escaped uninjured. It is not yet known what caused the fire.

Shot Fired At A House In Dublin
A family of four escaped injury after a gunman fired a shot at a house in west Dublin. The attack took place at round 2.30am this morning when one bullet was fired at the front downstairs window of the home in Hazelwood View, Clondalkin. Two adults and two children were in the house at the time and no-one was injured.
