Two Men Killed In Cork Collision

Two men have died and five others injured during a major collision in Co Cork yesterday.

The crash, which involved three-cars, happened at Carr's Hill on the main road between Cork city and Carrigaline at around 6.30am.

The two men, who were both traveling in the same car were pronounced dead at the scene.

The remaining three occupants of the car - one female and two males - were taken to Cork University Hospital.

The single occupants of the other two cars were also taken to Cork University Hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The road is closed and diversions are in place.

It is the second fatal road collision in the area in the past two days and the third incident this weekend.

Yesterday, Timmy Hayes, 21, from Ash Road, Fota Rock, Carrigtwohill, died in a road crash at Waterpark, Carrigaline at around 5.30am.

Four other people in the car were injured and taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, Gardai are investigating a fatal road traffic collision at Derrainy, Whitegate, County Clare, which occurred at 9.20pm on Sunday.

A man in his 30s was fatally injured when the car he was driving crashed into a tree. The man, who was the only occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no other vehicle involved in the crash.

The road at the scene was closed pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

In the North, two children have been left without their father after he died when his car crashed on a country road through the Sperrin Mountains yesterday morning.

The victim, who was named locally last night as Aidan O'Driscoll, 34 from Kildress in Co Tyrone, was killed after the single-vehicle crash on the Sixtowns road near Draperstown in Co Londonderry at 11.30am.

A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital where his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and four other men, aged between 19 and 28, were treated at the scene for minor injuries and shock.

Man Dies In Overnight Road Crash
A man has died when his car collided with a van on the Rathbeale road in Swords, Dublin, around 02.30am on Wednesday morning. The man in his 40s was a passenger in the van. He died at the scene. The driver of the van and a second passenger are being treated in hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Man Dies In Single-Vehicle Crash
A man has been killed in a collision in Galway. The car crash happened at around 2.45am this morning on the Headford to Galway Road. The 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardai are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

An 81-year-old man has died following a road crash in Ennis in Co Clare this morning. The man died after his car collided with another vehicle on the Sandfield Road around 8:15am.

Woman, 82, Dies In Road Accident
An 82-year-old woman has died following a road accident in Donegal. The crash occurred at around 3.50pm on Monday (18 August) at The Ross in Bundoran. Gardaí have said a car collided with a fence in the incident. The woman was transferred to Sligo Hospital but later died from her injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí.

Man Arrested In Connection With Fatal Road Collision
A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident in Dublin on Friday night. A woman, 40, died when she was hit by a car on the Davitt Road, which fled from the scene. The car, believed to be a Ford Focus, has not been found. Gardai believe the car would have been damaged at the front and the windscreen.
