Galway 'Gang Operation' Leads To Arrests

The police have arrested two males and recovered a number of items in Inverin, Co. Galway following what has been described as 'intelligence-led operation' into organised crime.

Local Gardaí from Galway and Salthill stations supported by the Garda Emergency Response Unit arrested two males in their 30s at approximately 5.30pm on Wednesday near the Post Office at Inverin.

They are currently detailed under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Galway Garda Station.

A number of items were recovered including what is believed to be a firearm, subject to examination, along with knives, balaclavas, gloves and mobile phones.

Teen Rescued From Island By Galway RNLI
Galway RNLI have rescued a 19-year-old man from an island off Silver Strand. The teenager had become stranded in an area called Grey Rock by the rising tide at about 19:45 on Wednesday. A kayaker who spotted the teenager and raised the alarm.

ESB Continuing To Work To Restore Power After Storm Lorenzo
ESB have restored power to some 12,000 homes, farms and businesses, affected by Storm Lorenzo, while work continues to restore power to 3,600 customers still without power. A clean-up operation is underway across the west and northwest following the storm on Thursday. According to reports, substantial flooding was experienced across Donegal.

Council Urged To 'Stop Stalling' On Flood Defence Works
Galway County Council has been urged to "stop stalling" and ensure that work on a flood relief channel between Kinvara and Chaermore is carried out "without delay". Making the call, Fianna Fáil General Election candidate for Galway East Cllr. Anne Rabbitte, raised concerns that the ongoing delays will see the project pushed out indefinitely.
