Man charged over woman's fire death

A 26-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a young woman who was deliberately set on fire in Merseyside.

Monika Szmecht, 20, from Norris Green in Liverpool, died in hospital after being found on Monday night suffering from serious burns.

She had knocked on the door of a house in Blindfoot Lane in the Rainford area of St Helen's around 9pm on Monday begging for help.

She was taken to hospital where she later died. A post-mortem examination revealed that she died from severe burns.

Anthony Clarke, 26, from Halsey Crescent in West Derby, was charged with the murder of Mrs Szmecht on Friday. He is due to appear before magistrates in St Helens on Friday afternoon.

Man Faces Baby Murder Charge
A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a four-month-old baby girl. Craig Jamieson, 28, from Scotscoun, appeared before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, where he was remanded in custody. Mr Jamieson was arrested on Friday, shortly after the baby died in Glasgow's Yorkhill Hospital, after being taken from her home in Partick.

Mobile Customers To Share £1m Refund
Mobile provide EE is to refund around £1m to a number of customers wrongly charged VAT between October 2012 and October 2014. It is understood that EE customers who travelled outside the EU during those dates and used internet data were affected by the charges. The company estimated it as being about 0.5% of its customers.

Baby Death Mother Named
The British woman charged with causing the death of her newborn baby in a hotel room in Crete has been named. Leah Andrew, from London, has been charged with infantide after being arrested in Malia on Tuesday. Ms Andrew was rushed to hospital by local residents after giving birth alone in her room.
