Drowned men ‘made suicide pact’

Two men who were found drowned at a beauty spot in west Tyrone allegedly made a suicide pact after they met on the internet, it has been revealed.

Barry McGlade, 20, from Omagh, County Tyrone and Nicholas Jamieson, 24, from Walkinstown in Dublin were found at Gortin Lakes in Tyrone on Tuesday following an operation by a team of police divers.

Father Neil Farren, who gave the Last Rites, said the men’s families received letters about what they had done.

“The letters said what they were doing, that there would be identification on the bodies of who they were, and the location of where they would find the bodies,” Father Farren said.

“The police had the bodies on the path beside the lake, near the spot where the two boys had gone into the water.”

Post mortem examinations have been carried out and an inquest into their deaths will be held at a later date.

Police said they did not suspect a crime.
