Police investigate two house burglaries in South Belfast
Four men have robbed two elderly women in their South Belfast home.
The gang of four, two armed with large screwdrivers, forced their way into the sister's home at Diamond Gardens, Finaghy at around 6.30pm on Wednesday evening.
A police spokesperson said that one of the sisters heard a noise in the hallway and when she went to investigate a man grabbed her by the arm.
The men, who had forced their way into the house via the front door, ransacked the house.
The made off with a sum of money and a dark blue coloured car which police said has not been recovered.
Elsewhere, a 92-year-old woman was struck in the face during a burglary of her home in south Belfast on Tuesday evening.
Police say that five men forced their way into the pensioner's home in Marlborough Park North.
Two of the men kept her in a room while the others ransacked the house. They demanded money, threatened her and struck her in the face a number of times.
Police have appealed for anyone with information on either incident to contact detectives.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

An elderly couple were subjected to a terrifying ordeal last night when two masked men forced their way into their Bellaghy home. One of the men brandishing a handgun forced his way past the pensioner as he opened the door to his home on the Drenan Road, near Bellaghy, at around 7.30pm.

Man questioned about 1988 murder
A man has been arrested in connection with police inquiries into a murder in 1988. The body of Lily Smyth, 66, was found in her flat at Moveen House in Dunmurry on October 9, 1988. The pensioner had been strangled. A police spokesperson said that a 43-year-old man had been arrested and is being questioned at Antrim Police Station.
