Prisoners no longer entitled to remission
The government has today announced that offenders in Northern Ireland will no longer be entitled to an automatic 50% reduction in their sentences.
Over the past 30-years, prisoner's have been eligible for early release after having only having served half their given sentence, however due to new legislation, offenders will now have to serve the full term.
Criminal Justice Minister David Hanson today revealed that an independent body is to be set up, similar to the current parole board in England and Wales, to judge prisoners' suitability for release.

Man Extradited From Poland To NI To Stand Trial For Alleged Child Sex Offences
A 59-year old man that has been extradited from Poland to Northern Ireland is to stand trial for sexual offences against children today, 31 January. Officers from the PSNI's International Policing Unit extradited the man yesterday, 30 January, ahead of his expected appearance before Downpatrick Crown Court today.

Police Release Statement On Easter Monday Events In Creggan
The PSNI have released a statement on the events which took place in Creggan on Easter Monday. Derry City & Strabane Area Commander Chief Superintendent Gillian Kearney said that "police received an 11/1 on Saturday 30th March in relation only to an event in the City Cemetery in Creggan" which would be taking place on 1 April.
