Taxi driver leaves couple stranded

Detectives in Belfast are urging a taxi driver who drove off with a woman's handbag at the weekend, to return it.

The woman and her husband got into a black taxi outside Benedicts Hotel in Bradbury place in south Belfast at around 2am on Sunday morning.

As they made their journey homewards, the taxi developed problems as it approached the Grosvenor Road and eventually broke down.

The driver asked the couple to get out of the vehicle and give it a push, and as they did so, the car started and the driver drove off, leaving the couple stranded.

The woman, who had recently been fitted with an implant which is activated by a pain control monitor, which she carried with her, was left in her handbag, which was left in the taxi.

The woman is keen to have this returned and police have appealed to the driver, or anyone who may know the identity of the driver, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
