Woman and son escape injury in arson attack

A woman and her son have escaped injury following an arson attack on their home in Co Antrim on Monday.

Both occupants were upstairs when a window near the front door of their home in Laurel Hill Park, Ahoghill was broken and a liquid set alight just before 1am.

They escaped by climbing onto a porch and helped to safety by a neighbour.

The resulting fire damaged the hall and stairs while the rest of the home was smoke damaged.

Elsewhere, a one-year-old girl has been treated for burns to her leg following a fire at a flat in north Belfast.

Three adults and two other girls, aged six and three, were also taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation as a result of the fire in Duncairn Parade.

It is still unclear how the blaze started.
